Artisan hands working on craft

Where Tradition Meets Creation

Handgemacht Wien was born from a simple belief: that objects made by hand carry something that mass production can never replicate. A presence. A story. A connection to the person who shaped them.

Our workshop sits in the sixth district of Vienna, where the rhythm of the city provides a constant backdrop to the quieter rhythms of our craft. Here, leather is cut and stitched, clay is shaped and fired, wood is carved and joined, and textiles are woven and embroidered.

We are not trying to compete with industrial production. We offer an alternative for those who value the irreplaceable quality of human skill and attention.

Our Guiding Principles

The values that shape every piece we create

Material Integrity

We source materials thoughtfully, prioritizing quality over cost. Each piece of leather, clay batch, or timber plank is selected for its character and durability.

Slow Crafting

We resist the pressure of speed. Every project takes the time it needs to be done properly. No shortcuts, no compromises on technique.

Personal Connection

Every commission begins with conversation. We listen to understand not just what you want, but why you want it and how it will fit into your life.

Built to Last

We create objects meant to outlive trends and even their makers. Our pieces are designed to be repaired, maintained, and passed down through generations.

Our Craft Disciplines

Leather working tools

Leather Workshop

Our leather artisans work with vegetable-tanned hides sourced from European tanneries that maintain traditional methods. The stitching is done by hand using waxed linen thread, creating seams that strengthen with age rather than weaken.

Specialties include messenger bags, document portfolios, belts, wallets, and bespoke accessories. Each item is burnished, conditioned, and finished with care that no machine can replicate.

Clay has been shaped by human hands for millennia. Our potters continue this unbroken tradition using wheel-throwing techniques and hand-building methods. Each piece is fired in our kiln, with glazes developed through years of experimentation.

We create functional ware for everyday use as well as decorative pieces that bring texture and warmth to interior spaces. No two pieces are identical.

Woodworking studio

Woodworking Studio

Wood responds to the maker like few other materials. Our woodworkers select each board for its grain pattern, density, and character. Joinery is executed using time-tested methods that create strong, lasting bonds without relying on modern fasteners.

From small decorative boxes to substantial furniture pieces, our wood creations honor the material while serving the needs of contemporary living.

Our Process

How we work with clients from concept to completion

1

Initial Conversation

We begin with a detailed discussion about your needs, preferences, intended use, and budget. This helps us understand not just what you want, but why.

2

Design and Materials

Based on our conversation, we propose materials and design approaches. You may visit the workshop to see and feel material options in person.

3

Crafting

Once details are confirmed, we begin the making process. For larger pieces, we provide progress updates and may invite you to see work in progress.

4

Delivery and Care

Your completed piece is delivered with care instructions specific to its materials. We remain available for maintenance guidance and, when needed, repairs.
